Buying tax-exempt as a reseller
If you press our transfers onto garments you sell, the transfers are inventory for resale and you should not be paying sales tax on them. Send us your certificate once and it comes off at checkout from then on.
Who qualifies
Print shops, apparel labels, boutiques, promotional-product businesses, embroidery and decoration shops: anyone buying transfers to incorporate into goods they sell. Schools, churches and nonprofits with a state exemption qualify too. Buying transfers for your own use, your team’s uniforms, or a one-off event you are not charging for does not.
What we need
- Illinois buyers: a completed CRT-61 Certificate of Resale, signed, with your Illinois account ID or FEIN.
- Other states: your state’s resale or exemption certificate, or the Multistate Tax Commission Uniform Sales & Use Tax Certificate with Illinois or your home state indicated. We currently collect tax only where we are required to; if we are not collecting in your state, you will not see it at checkout and no certificate is needed.
- Exempt organisations: the state-issued exemption letter or certificate. A federal 501(c)(3) determination letter alone is not enough in Illinois; the state issues its own E-number.
Certificates must match the name and email on your Loop DTF account. Create the account first if you have not yet.
Submit your certificate
What happens next
We check the certificate within one business day and email you when the account is flagged. Orders placed after that show no tax at checkout. Orders placed before the flag was set were taxed correctly at the time and are not refunded retroactively, so if you have a large order waiting, send the certificate first. Certificates are kept on file for the period the state requires and renewed when yours expires; we will remind you.
